Litchfield, Connecticut

MKM has designed and installed a Pinetum to filter a house from surrounding properties in the NW corner of Connecticut. Four different species of pine have been employed – it’s amazing how versatile Pinus strobus ‘Fastigiata’ can be!

Sky pool at Untermyer Park and Gardens

MKM and the project team have completed design drawings for the preservation and rehabilitation of the Temple of the Sky pool at Untermyer Park and Gardens. The former ziggurat shaped swimmimg pool below the Temple of the Sky will be converted to a shallow reflective pool by installing a reinforced concrete within it.  Existing mosaics will be left in place for their archaeological value, and will be faithfully replicated on the sides and floor of the new pool. The mechanical system will be upgraded with new piping equipment; water will be heated  to keep the pool from freezing in winters.

Green Roofs in New York Virtual Symposium - 10/19

Mark will present for Green Roofs in New York Virtual Symposium. Topic of the presentation is Designing for the Urban Heat Island in New York.

Did you know that there are 736 buildings with green roofs in NYC? BUT this represents only 0.1% of NYC's 1 million buildings!

Local Laws 92 and 94, recently passed by New York City Council, require green roofs, solar panels or a combination of both on all new buildings and roof deck replacements. With more new green infrastructure policies and incentives on the way, NYC is becoming a leader in green infrastructure.

Join us for an exciting collaboration between the GRRA and GRHC where we pair research with practice. Examine the science behind green roofs, discover best design practices, learn about city policy, and take a close look at case studies that exemplify the benefits of green roofs.

Pending approval for up to 6 LU|HSW credits from AIA, ASLA, APLD, and GRP credits

This symposium is sponsored by Rooflite & Permaloc.

Yonkers Greenway To Van Cortlandt Park - Groundwork Hudson Valley

MKM has been awarded an environmental design and planning project to provide Yonkers residents with a connection between the Yonkers Greenway and Van Cortlandt Park (VCP.) The proposed unpaved trail will pass through the Northwest Forest, a forever Wild NYC Parks property, then bypass the Riverdale Stables and terminate at the VCP Parade Grounds, near the Van Cortlandt Park subway station at 242 Street. As part of the project, we will design a gateway at the northwest corner of the park, off Carly Avenue.
